Motherhood Mondays: Princess crown braid

To contact us Click HERE
This month, I'm excited to feature back-to-school hair tutorials for girls every Monday. (And of course we grown-ups can wear them, too:) My friend Reagan of Hairdresser on Fire did a princess crown on adorable five-year-old Stella. What a pretty fall look, and I loved Stella's goofy personality! Here are Reagan's steps and more photos...
This style works for short, medium and long hair, and is a great way to keep your cutie's hair out of her face!

Prep: Brush the hair until its tangle-free. You'll need one elastic (I like Goody's clear ones) and a handful of bobby pins.

1. Find the hair's natural part. You'll want to start your braid on the heavy side.

2. Start French braiding with the sections going underneath each other, instead of over the top. You'll follow the round of the head, rather than going straight back like you would for pigtail braids.

3. To make the finished braid easier to manipulate, I like to only add hair to the French braid from the bottom section. (If this is too challenging or confusing, it's optional.)

4-5. When you get to the back of the ear, you'll start to cut across the back of the head, so that this is a "half up" braid instead of all the way up. You’ll leave the rest of the hair down.

6. When your braid reaches the other side of the head, and you have no more sections to add, finish off the tail of the braid and secure with an elastic.

7. Fold the tail of the braid in half and pin the braid in place. Find any loose areas and pin them too. The braid should look similar to a horseshoe.

8. Pull at the braid until it's softened to your taste. I like my princess braids a little fuzzy.

Now teach her how to jump rope to "Cinderella Dressed in Yella." That seems suiting!
Thank you so much, Reagan!

P.S. More little girl hair tutorials, and grown-up hair tutorials...

My mom's tomboy style

To contact us Click HERE
My mom recently sent me some old family photos of our cousins, summer vacations, all sorts of things—but what stood out most was my mom's incredible style. She wore Wellington boots, flannel shirts and my dad's sweaters, and her pieces were loose and relaxed. Yet through her tomboyish style, she still exuded grace and femininity. I'm so inspired by these beautiful photos and am going to try to shop my closet to see if I can create some similar outfits. What was your mom's style like?
P.S. Having babies in Paris, and my mom on her wedding day.

The Best Pesto You'll Ever Have

To contact us Click HERE
A few years ago, Alex made pesto for dinner from scratch. Until then, we'd only had pesto from a jar, which was dark green and tasty. But this homemade pesto took it to the next level. We couldn't believe how bright and vibrant it was, and it tasted like we were eating basil right out of the garden. So I'm thrilled that Kelly from The Best Remedy is sharing her favorite recipe (and it's easy!)...
The Best Pesto You'll Ever Have

Fresh pesto is bright, bold and easy to boot. Once you know the basics of pesto, you can make simple substitutions to mix things up and continue getting fresh flavors throughout the year.

Recipe: Pesto
Makes approx. 1 cup

You'll need:
1/4 cup pine nuts, toasted
2 cups fresh basil leaves, washed and patted dry
1/4 cup parmesan cheese, shredded
2 garlic cloves
Pinch of salt
2 tbsp. olive oil

Preheat the oven to 350°. Toast the pine nuts on a baking sheet for 3 to 4 minutes—watch closely, you just want them to get golden, not brown. This will bring out their flavor, giving the pesto a more robust flavor.

With your pine nuts toasted and cooled, it's time to whip up this pesto—it's a snap, I promise. In the bowl of your food processor, combine the basil leaves, parmesan cheese, garlic cloves and salt. Process for about 10 seconds, then slowly pour the olive oil through the feed tube until the pesto is thoroughly pureed. That's it!

Now all you have to decide is what to do with it.

Toss it with pasta: I prefer spaghetti or linguini with pesto, but use whatever shape you like. Reserve some of the pasta water and add a little of it to the pesto when you toss it—this will help the pesto incorporate throughout the pasta.

Risotto: This is great for cooler months. Just stir the pesto into the risotto before serving.

Crostini: Go the super simple route and simply spread the pesto over a piece of toast. Or get a touch fancier and combine the pesto with a little ricotta, spread it over toast and sprinkle with a touch of sea salt. Delicious!

Once you've got the basic recipe down, go ahead and experiment. Pesto is a balance of greens/nuts/oil/garlic/cheese. Try experimenting with some of those things.

Instead of basil, try:
1 cup chives for a more oniony flavor
A handful of ramps (about 10) for a spring pesto

Instead of pine nuts, try:
toasted walnuts
slivered almonds

Here are a few other versions I've tried: mint + poblano pesto, walnut pesto, ramp pesto
Delicious! Thanks, Kelly!

Here's a bonus best recipe for today for anyone who loves potato chips (and who doesn't?). Nikole from Herriott Grace has discovered the best recipe for a homemade version—crispy, salty and perfect alongside any sandwich. And how great would they be at a dinner party? Here's the recipe...

The Best Potato Chips You'll Ever Have
By Nikole from Herriott Grace

One of my fondest food memories is making french fries in an old-school deep fryer with my mom. These are a take on those—more potato chip than french fry but equally delicious. We had them last with roast beef sandwiches, but I think they're perfect with a glass of beer as well!Note: The recipe below is by Gourmet Magazine; I just substitute fingerling potatoes and keep the skins on the potatoes, since I think they're better that way.

Recipe: Homemade Potato Chips
By Gourmet Magazine

You'll need:
2 pounds fingerling potatoes
4 cups canola oil for deep-frying

Put the potatoes in a bowl of cold water to cover. Pat one potato dry. Using a mandoline, cut potato into paper-thin slices, and let the slices stand 5 minutes in another bowl of cold water. Drain potato slices and spread without overlapping on a triple layer of paper towels. Blot slices completely dry with another triple layer of paper towels.

In a 3-quart saucepan, heat oil until a deep-fat thermometer registers 380°F. Working in batches of 8 to 10 slices, fry potatoes, turning once or twice, until golden, 1 1/2 to 2 minutes, making sure oil returns to 380°F before adding next batch. Transfer chips as fried with a large slotted spoon to paper towels to drain and sprinkle with salt. Continue to pat dry, cut, dry and fry remaining potatoes in same manner. Potato chips may be made 2 days ahead and kept in an airtight container.

Delicious! Thanks, Nikole (and Gourmet!).

Write Press Releases that Grab Peoples' Attention

There are so many different aspects of both online and offline business that have the potential for overwhelming anyone. All the old vets of internet marketing who pioneered press release went through that and know the deal.

The primary reason for using freelance help is to allow for more time on activities that directly impact revenue.

We are not quite done with our discussion, and if you are like us the gears would be turning with fresh ideas.

While companies selling physical products like luxaflex blinds may find this marketing strategy is very useful and diverse, it just depends on your particular situation. There is a lot to consider when you are contemplating all new promotional activities. Very many online businesses are extremely serious, and therefore they will always be interested in adding new revenue streams. Perhaps that easiest path to growth is through scaling existing campaigns, and then seek to add what you can that is all new. In the end, a long time from now, just be sure you do not look back and wish you would have considered more options. Your press release's first paragraph is really important and that is why you need to be choosy about which information is included in it. Make sure you include the basics as people are going to have questions right in the start; answer their questions related to where, how, why and when right in the first paragraph, so that they don't really have any doubts and are comfortable moving forward.

You can take any one of these methods and really go all out in your business because they will open up new venues for you, to be sure. You will be positioning your self for the greatest gains with this simple approach. One thing you can easily do is test these tips and look at examples and case studies such as the company that sells luxaflex blinds using this marketing strategy, on a small scale, and that is another approach we tell people to try - just do a small test and decide. Not necessarily at all with what we are talking about today, but there are other methods and ideas that are sold and not really the best choices for people to use.

If you are really new, then you have to know the importance of performing background research on any method that you are not familiar with. If you are not careful about what you do, then you can easily start method-hopping and getting nowhere. That experience is very common with web marketers who are relatively new and with little experience. We really pretty much do not care who it is, if something is new to you then you have to preform some research to get another side of the story. Maybe you have already had experiences in which smart homework saved you some money. In order to find success with your press release, you need to focus on some of the vital elements such as the headline. If you don't have a good headline then nobody is going to read your press release. The level of exposure that you get with your press release is completely dependent upon how well you can reach out to your target audience and impact them. Look around to see how other press releases out there have crafted their headlines so that you can emulate them while you work on conveying your own message to your readers. Do not be scared to experiment with your headlines and make changes.

Jewelry Marketing Strategies

By Casper Vivianodeni

Public relations is at the core of marketing. It is one aspect in business that most companies really focus on. This is especially seen in fashion industries that have a select clientele. PR for jewelry is one of them.

The jewelry industry has a very sensitive market. Jewelries are considered to be luxuries and only an elite group from a large population can afford it. And these people are usually choosy. They don't just buy by the looks. They also consider the quality and the reputation of the company that they're buying from.

This is exactly what public relations is all about. The goal is to keep a good name for the company through different methods such as ads and projects. It is the company's communication line to their target market so people will know and remember them. This can be a tricky task so to speak.

For this reason, a lot of effort is being exerted in jewelry public relations. The competition is pretty hard in the market. If you want to start out in this trade, here are some tips that you might find useful:

1. Set goals-consider the products you are selling and analyze the kind of market that will be interested in this product. Focus on a specific one instead of targeting a general public. Are these jewelries for women alone? Or will you market it to both genders?

2. Establish networks-one good technique is to be affiliated with trusted brands in the industry. It also helps if you would have networks that are well respected in the society. If their friends will see how they trust you they will also feel the same way.

3. Go online-the problem with some fine jewelry sellers is that they prefer to stick to the traditional. But for a business that's just starting out in the industry, these new methods can be very helpful. The internet is a place where you can campaign for your products and do your jewelry pr activities with less expenses.

The Two Types Of PR Representative that Designers Need

To contact us Click HERE
By Casper Vivianodeni

Being a designer is not as easy as everyone thinks. It is impossible for one person to do all the tasks required to maintain a brand name consistently. He or she must seek the help of various professionals that specialize in a range of tasks so he or she can focus in his or her passion of creating trends for the consumers.

In taking care of the brands image by dealing with the public's opinion about a product, the designer must hire a fashion PR. The public relations representative takes care of how the target market views both existing products and those that are yet to be released in the market. This type of fashion public relations representative are equipped with research and surveying skills to gather data on public perception. If the representative finds negative feedbacks, it is his or her job to organize a plan to respond to that negative feedback. Most of the time, the task of a fashion PR is to prevent these negative feedbacks from happening.

The other type of public relations representative that a designer needs is the lifestyle PR. They are the ones dedicated in controlling the image of the fashion designer in the eye of the public. This is because many people look up to fashion designers and their brand. It is essential that a designer must protect his or her image by making sure that none of his or her actions are frowned upon by his or her supporters.

It can be very difficult for a designer to track every one of his or her public moves. This is where the lifestyle public relations representative comes in. It is their task to make sure that the lifestyle aspect of a designer's image will not taint the brand that he or she is representing.

Among the tasks of these representatives, the most important is arranging and editing press releases when problems concerning the image arise. In these times, they facilitate the processes of keeping the brand name and image favorable foe the target market. They also do proactive promotions such as sponsored articles while being aware of the budget.

24 hours in San Francisco

To contact us Click HERE
This past Tuesday, I flew to San Francisco for 24 hours. The reason for my trip was to give a work presentation, but luckily my twin sister also lives there, so we turned it into The World's Shortest Vacation! Here's what we did...

My sister Lucy and her husband Paul live in San Carlos about a half hour south of the city, so of course I crashed with them.
As soon as I arrived at 3:30pm, my sister picked me up at the airport, and we went on a hike. Their suburb is peppered with little wooded trails with beautiful views.
Lucy and Paul originally bought this giant stuffed bear for their baby niece, but then realized that they were being overzealous and it was a little big for a newborn. So they kept it for themselves (and secretly love it). When I went to the guest room, he was chilling on my bed, which made me laugh.
I also spotted this Spy's Guidebook, which was one of our favorite books growing up! It was such a flashback. My parents would gives us these books before going on overnight flights so that we'd stay busy on the plane. I can tell you from experience, a spy's guidebook is the RADDEST book ever for a 9-year-old.
Later that evening, we went to visit my best friend Brooke, who lives in the neighboring town. I helped put her ADORABLE toddler son to bed and taught him how to say "dude," which he then said every three minutes for the rest of the night. After he was tucked in, Brooke busted out some delicious white wine from Whole Foods.
Lucy then brought over pizza from Positano, including this eggplant, artichoke, arugula, prosciutto and burrata combo. It was such a great night, and we were so busy chatting we forgot to take photos.
Early the next morning, I went into the city to give my presentation and then flew back to NYC. During my trip, Toby chilled at home with Alex and our babysitters. They texted me lots of photo updates, including this adorable one of soccer practice. (Apparently Toby wouldn't let go of his coach's hand:)

When I first met Alex, he strongly believed that vacations should be at least a week. He wants to get into a rhythm, relax, have time to breathe. But over the years, I've tried to convince him that SHORT trips can be just as awesome. Quick getaways, weekend jaunts, mad dashes...they're thrilling and whirlwindy!

What do you think? Don't you love San Francisco? And do you believe in the value of short trips, too? Or are you think vacations should always be long and leisurely? xoxo

The financial experts agree that the calculation you should be using is your monthly spending times nine, the total being what you need to have on hand in case of emergency. Network marketing is great for providing that additional income and more!

Deciding that you should succeed is a great thing to do for network marketing. Take your network marketing seriously and treat it like it is an actual business. If you cannot think of your business as real, you will never be able to develop it.

Make an effort to let your networking contacts call the shots in a conversation. If you get as much knowledge about them as you can by using social media and other forms of contact, you will be better poised to promote your products. As you increase your knowledge of what they need and want, you boost your chances of marketing products they will purchase.

Do not take any shortcuts when you are doing network marketing, mistakes will make you lose out on profits. Time and effort are the only ways to become successful at your marketing campaign, not cutting corners. Favorable results are only possible through high-quality work.

If you're searching for a network marketing business, you need to find one with products you're interested in on a personal basis. Your excitement for the product can be contagious, and as a result, your customers will find the product much more appealing.

Get to know who your contacts know. When your products are presented to someone, you should do this in such an excellent way, that he or she will want to inform all their friends of them. Stay away from people who aren't interested in your product, unless that have contacts with a large network.

It is wise to use social networking as a part of your plan for affiliate marketing. Form different social marketing groups to concentrate on certain niches and to create customer relationships. You can try starting a social networking page for every product you want to highlight.

When you are first dealing with a potential client, the first thing they may hear is the message on your answering machine. Maximize the potential of this. Your answering machine will leave a first impression, so make sure the message is concise and positive. Include what type of information you would like them to leave for you, and a resonable time frame in which they should expect a response.

When choosing network marketing businesses, be sure to fully analyze their plan for compensation. You should focus on higher overall returns, and getting income from multiple sources. Your sponsor will also get a large cut of the first few sales you make. This can be very helpful and is an effective means of gaining leverage for your own efforts.

Be as professional as you can when you approach network marketing. The chief reason for failure among many people is the lack of seriousness in their approach. While network marketing can take a lot of effort, if you want it to be, it could even be lucrative enough to be a full time job. Prepare yourself by learning all you can ahead of time. Don't tackle network marketing without the right knowledge!

Once you have chosen to sign on to a new network marketing campaign, you should consider the compensation package that will be included. Knowing the compensation end of your network marketing agreement will determine if your time is being spent well or if you need to consider other options.

Always have a rock solid business plan, but allow enough flexibility that it will not crack under a missed deadline or unexpected accident. Set up a schedule of what needs to be done weekly and monthly, then be realistic with yourself of how much can actually be done. A good business plan will allow you to sync up these two numbers.

Network marketing is all about value. Additionally, you must make this value clear to the customer so that they can understand what you are selling. Ultimately, you want money and you are looking out for number one. You situation is not unique; the game is being played the same way by all the players. What can you do for them? For instance, how can you help to lift a load off their shoulders or otherwise enhance their lives? Put that on the table early and make sure their attention stays there.

Use all of your media resources and connections in order to market your product effectively. The industry is always changing and expanding. People who follow guidelines like these are among the most capable and effective individuals in the business world.

My mom's tomboy style

My mom recently sent me some old family photos of our cousins, summer vacations, all sorts of things—but what stood out most was my mom's incredible style. She wore Wellington boots, flannel shirts and my dad's sweaters, and her pieces were loose and relaxed. Yet through her tomboyish style, she still exuded grace and femininity. I'm so inspired by these beautiful photos and am going to try to shop my closet to see if I can create some similar outfits. What was your mom's style like?
P.S. Having babies in Paris, and my mom on her wedding day.
